In 1921, a brilliant winemaker from Luxembourg, Jean Bernard-Massard, who gained winemaking experience in Champagne, with the financial support of a small group of enthusiasts from Luxembourg and Belgium, realized his dream - he built a winery in the town of Grevenmacher on the banks of the Moselle River. His goal was to create quality sparkling wines in Luxembourg. Belgian partners helped conquer the local market, which remains the largest for Bernard-Massard today. With the intention of developing outside of Luxembourg, Jean Bernard-Massard created a wine trading company in Trier. This company still exists today, strengthening the European presence of Bernard-Massard wines.
